PMU fades
Perhaps you need a solution to make PMU fade more quickly. This may be the case if you want to get rid of it so that you can perhaps have a nicer, new PMU applied. And that way you do not have to undergo laser treatments. Curious which other methods you can use to have PMU removed? Read our blog "Removing permanent make-up".
PMU fades indirectly through the following things:
So all these circumstances make your PMU fade. PMU can discolour and after a number of years may give a greyish, red or dull undertone. This is because the skin absorbs the pigment and partly sheds it. In addition, through the sun and peels you can also experience that the skin is affected, and as a result the PMU will eventually fade as well.
It is standard advice to have a touch-up treatment within 2 to 3 years after the PMU is applied. This way you refresh the shape, colour and warmth again.

Can you remove permanent make-up yourself?
The answer is no. You can influence it slightly by carrying out the activities above, such as a lot of sunbathing or having peels. But even then the permanent make-up will never disappear completely. It will take years before it has become much lighter at all, and weigh that against the amount of UV radiation, which is not good for your body.
Get advice from a clinic and look at several options for having your permanent make-up removed. Perhaps there is an option among them that really appeals to you and with which you achieve quick results.
Permanent make-up did not take
Anyone who has permanent make-up applied for the first time does not yet fully know what they are getting into. Permanent make-up treatments come with a lot of information, and it is important that you as a client follow the correct aftercare. After all, everything can influence the final result.
If you have permanent make-up applied, you are not finished after 1 treatment. And in addition, it may also be that the first treatment the permanent make-up pigment does not take on your skin at all. Of course, the stylist knows all the tricks for treating your skin type. Still, a stylist will more often go for better safe than sorry. Because, after all, you are tattooing someone's face.
When the permanent make-up has not taken the first time, do not despair, because often 8 days after the treatment the pigment fades away, and will later reappear. That is why you always have a recovery period of 6 – 8 weeks. Only after these 8 weeks can the result of the first time be fully viewed and assessed. The stylist will make adjustments based on this. And should the colour have turned out too light the first time, she will make the colour a little darker or warmer during the second treatment.
How long does permanent make-up last on average?
On average, permanent make-up lasts between 2 and 3 years. The undertone and faint lines of the make-up will last longer. This is based on permanent make-up of the eyebrows. Because eyeliner can certainly last up to 10 years. That is also because eyeliner is often done with black pigment. And that is not something you can have applied to the eyebrows.
Permanent make-up of the lips also lasts around 3 to 4 years. This colour tone will, however, stay warm and hold a little longer; this is because of all the underlying blood vessels that also play a part in retaining the colour.
How can you best care for your permanent make-up?
Make sure you follow the aftercare properly. Aftercare is there to ensure as well as possible that the permanent make-up takes well after just 1 treatment. So it is partly in your own hands!
In the Netherlands, aftercare is in fact standardised by the GGD. From a hygiene point of view, they have opted for certain rules.
If it is Lip Blush, then it is mainly:
In addition, you can yourself still watch out for certain things that are really not allowed for the first 2 weeks:

The rules are simple:
Do your powder brows fade after a while? After how long does this happen? And why does it happen?
It is funny when we talk about PMU: permanent make-up, because it is not really permanent. And yet that is what it is called. How long do you get to enjoy powder brows, for example? And when can they fade sooner? We explain it to you!
