Permanent Makeup

Permanent make-up underestimated

Permanent make-up remains underestimated because companies mainly share photos of freshly applied treatments. The final result after healing looks much more natural.

Permanent make-up underestimated

Healed permanent make-up

You have probably seen various companies on social media that apply permanent make-up. These companies often post photos of work that has just been applied to the client. This work always looks very sharp, full of colour and highly defined. That is because the permanent make-up has only just been applied. And this gives viewers like you and me the wrong impression of permanent make-up.

Whether you look at microblading, powder brows, eyeliner or lip blushing: all types of permanent make-up pigment will decrease by 40 – 60% during the healing weeks. But what does it look like then? That is the question. Because not many companies post their healed work. As a result, permanent make-up is often underestimated.

Here is a good example:

This is when the permanent make-up has just been applied. Ombré Powder Brows and Lip Blushing were done. You can enjoy both for 3 – 4 years. Of course, it does depend on how you treat the permanent make-up. And perhaps you had your permanent make-up applied more boldly, in which case you will need a touch-up every so many years.

What happens to permanent make-up when it has just been applied?

But as we just said, the permanent make-up decreases by 40 – 60%. So the example above is not the final result of the permanent make-up.

The pigment is strongly present

The PMU area can itch

The skin around the PMU can be red

The skin around the PMU can be swollen

The PMU area can feel tight

How long does permanent make-up need to heal?

Ultimately, however, the total healing period takes longer. On average this is between 6 – 8 weeks. That is why you may only come back for a touch-up treatment after at least 6 weeks following your first treatment.

We take you through the healing process of the permanent make-up day by day:

Please note: every body reacts differently and heals differently. So you may experience fewer or more of the healing points above.

On average the healing period is 2 weeks. This is also what the GGD advises, from whom you receive the aftercare guidelines. That is because during those 2 weeks the skin forms scabs and indirectly tries to remove the pigment from the skin. That is the natural reaction of every skin. It is something unnatural, so your body wants to work it out.

1 to 5 days: scab formation

6 to 11 days: the scabs fall off

12 to 15 days: the permanent make-up lightens

16 to 20 days: the pigment colour comes back

21 to 30 days: the colour becomes fainter, pixels less visible

31 to 45 days: the pigment stays roughly as it is now visible during this period

So, as a natural reaction, your body tries to reject the pigment. After all, pigment does not naturally belong on or in the body. The same happens with fillers and other similar treatments.

What does healed permanent make-up look like and why is permanent make-up underestimated?

We just showed you an image in which the Lip Blush and Ombré Powder Brows had been applied. After 6 – 8 weeks the client came back and the permanent make-up looks very different. See photo

What you now see of the permanent make-up is a soft look. Both the Lip Blushing and the Powder Brows have become extremely soft overall. You can still see a difference from when the client came in. We think it is a beautiful result! The pigments chosen suit the client's skin type and hair colour. A touch-up may be needed after a while, but that again depends on how the client treats her permanent make-up.

Let's show the permanent make-up photos side by side:

Powder Brows are a beautiful method for creating soft and natural eyebrows. The permanent make-up Lip Blushing has also healed very neutral and soft. That was the intention.

Someone who would like a Lip Blush result like the photo on the left will simply have to choose more of a lipstick colour. When the colour then heals, more warmth remains in the lips, making it somewhat more visible than in the photo on the right.

All in all, permanent make-up is underestimated because companies only post photos in which the permanent make-up has just been applied. This creates the wrong impression, because the photo on the right is even more beautiful and natural, and this is ultimately what the client gets.
