Make-up after a powder brows treatment

You have just had a powder brows treatment but wonder whether you may apply make-up after the powder brows treatment. Especially since the PMU specialist will surely have told you not to apply any make-up, but for how long? We explain everything you may and may not do after the Powder Brows treatment!

Why may I not wear make-up after a powder brows treatment?

A Powder Brows treatment is placed by means of pigment in the first skin layer. This means that the skin is, as it were, opened so that pigment can be left behind. When the skin is open it must be regarded and above all treated as an open wound.

Applying make-up to an open wound after a powder brows treatment is of course not exactly beneficial for the recovery of the powder brows. Make-up can be applied with dirty brushes and unclean fingers, and when the make-up can soak into the wound all day it only attracts more bacteria. There is also another problem, since the make-up then has to be removed again as well. Besides the fact that make-up is not permitted on new powder brows, it is also certainly not permitted to use products other than water and fragrance-free soap. Cleansing wipes, milk, oil or make-up remover itself are therefore also a real no-go for permanent make-up.

When may I wash my face after powder brows?

It is important to follow the correct instructions regarding aftercare for Ombré Powder Brows, because there is quite a lot involved, perhaps more than you think. You can quite easily pick up an infection if you do not follow the aftercare for powder brows in the right way. Make-up after a powder brows treatment does not help with this.

Washing your face after powder brows is therefore permitted again virtually immediately after the treatment. That is because the eyebrows need to be washed with fragrance-free soap and lukewarm water anyway. Washing the rest of your face with just water is therefore permitted, or with the same fragrance-free soap. But you may not use another foam wash or facial cleanser that you perhaps normally use, which contains oil or some fragrance. Milk products are also excluded.

According to the GGD & RIVM in the Netherlands, you must treat Powder Brows in a certain way. Every salon is required to pass this advice on to its clients; unfortunately not all salons do so. Some salons advise you mainly not to touch the powder brows and to leave them completely dry for 1 to 2 weeks. This is practically forbidden and not the correct advice a PMU specialist can give you. The GGD guidance is in fact to wash the open wound thoroughly for the first 2 days with lukewarm water and fragrance-free soap. You do this in the morning and in the evening. Gently, of course. In addition you must also apply a nourishing, unscented healing cream for at least the first 7 days. This advice is also often ignored.

How long must powder brows not get wet in the shower?

As we have already explained above, it is therefore a myth that powder brows must not get wet. Showering with powder brows is also permitted virtually immediately after the treatment. You do need to be careful with the temperature. Because the sauna, the swimming pool and the tanning bed are also not permitted, mainly because of the heat, a hot shower after placing powder brows is also not permitted. Shower a little shorter for a while and above all with lukewarm water.

When may I apply make-up again after powder brows?

This answer is fortunately simpler than it seems: when the wound is fully healed and no more scabs are visible, the wound is, as it were, a new skin. As soon as this is the case you may start using make-up again after the powder brows treatment if you wish. We do advise you to really only do this 7-9 days after the powder brows treatment. But not everyone has a 'fast' recovery process. With some clients we only see scabs appear after a full week. Then of course you are not yet ready to apply make-up after the powder brows treatment. Let the permanent make-up heal fully and give it time. The better you look after the open wound, the faster the process and the longer you will ultimately enjoy the result. You can always apply make-up after the powder brows treatment later.

When may I exercise after a powder brows treatment?

Do not exercise until at least 3 days after the powder brows treatment. We advise this because sweat contains salt. Salt literally dissolves the pigment in the newly pigmented eyebrows. This can create gaps in the colour of the powder brows. This is sometimes still difficult to restore with a touch-up treatment. So make sure you really do not exercise for the first 3 days after the powder brows treatment.
