Lip blushing treatment Netherlands

Lip Blush is a pigmentation technique for the lips, comparable to tattooing but less deep. The treatment can create symmetry, conceal scars and make the lips appear optically fuller.

What Lip Blushing Tattoo is

Lip Blush is a name for pigmenting your lips. Pigmentation is comparable to tattooing, except that with pigmentation the ink is applied with a needle into the upper layer of skin, whereas with tattooing this happens in the 3rd layer of skin (so much deeper).

Lips are actually transparent by nature; your circulation determines the colour of your lips. The lips are covered with an extremely thin skin, called the vermilion. If you have strong circulation, you see more colour in your lips.

If you have a lot of pigment in your lips (which is common in people with a darker skin tone), sometimes in just 1 of the lips, lip blushing can give both lips a beautiful colour.

When do you choose Lip Blushing?

Benefits of Lip Blushing:

There are all kinds of reasons, as listed above, why you might choose Lip Blushing. We explain them in more detail:

1. When your lips are not symmetrical

Perhaps your upper or lower lip is less wide on 1 side; you can have this optical difference corrected by choosing Lip Blushing. In consultation with you, the stylist will lightly over-line the lip that is not symmetrical, so that there will be more symmetry overall.

2. When you want the pigment to be distributed more evenly

If you have naturally dark or unevenly pigmented lips, a difference in pigmentation may be visible between, for example, the upper and lower lip. With Lip Blush and, where necessary, lip neutralisation, we can soften these pigment differences and even out the lip colour. During the treatment a suitable colour is chosen based on your natural lip pigmentation and the desired result.

If you have a lot of pigment in your lips (which is common in people with a darker skin tone), sometimes in just 1 of the lips, lip blushing can give both lips a beautiful colour. This difference in pigmentation is very easy to remedy with Lip Blushing. A colour is chosen based on your wishes. It is the case, however, that the Lip Blushing will reduce (diminish) by about 40 – 60 %. That is why it is always good to have a touch-up treatment after 6 to 8 weeks.

3. When you have poor circulation

If you have poorer circulation in your lips, you will see a greyish or pale colour in your lips. They can turn purple or blue in the cold, and of course this does not look very attractive.

The lips contain tiny blood vessels that determine the colour, and if their circulation is not optimal, the colour will not be warm. With a light pigmentation with more warmth in the colour, the lips will become warmer and lose their greyish tone.

4. When you want your lips to look fuller

Goodbye lip fillers, because Lip Blushing is the solution! Through pigmentation, the lips are filled in and evened out better in terms of colour. You usually have a somewhat more visible outline by nature, which becomes softer and softer towards the inside of the lips. By distributing colour everywhere, it looks as if your lips are fuller. And since Lip Blushing lasts 2 to 3 years, that is many times longer than constantly having to have lip fillers placed.

5. When you don't want to keep putting on lipstick

Addicted to lipstick? Don't bother any more! You can have Lip Blushing done in all the colours of the rainbow. This means you can also have your favourite colour pigmented, which you will enjoy for at least 2 – 3 years.

6. If you have small scars in your lip

Lip Blushing is a very easy way to conceal small scars. By having a soft, neutral colour pigmented on the lips, you will be able to conceal the scars.

Does the Lip Blushing treatment hurt?

In general, the Lip Blushing treatment is experienced as somewhat more painful than pigmenting Powder Brows. Of course everyone's pain threshold is different. For the lips, too, we work with an anaesthetic. This is applied before we start, but also during the treatment. In this way the area is well numbed.

The lip skin, or the vermilion, is a thin skin, which is why pigmenting it is in any case somewhat more sensitive than the skin of the eyebrows. On the other hand, the surface of the lips is smaller, so the treatment is also completed more quickly.

Disadvantages of Lip Blushing or Lip Pigmentation

When you have just had your lips pigmented, it can feel a little strange. The side effects of Lip Blushing after a treatment:

It is a natural reaction for the lips to want to push the pigmentation ink up out of the lips, which causes scabs. Scabs on your lips will feel a bit strange for a while. This process only starts after about 3 to 4 days. The lips feel dry and tight, which is also due to the scabs on them.

After 5 to 6 days the scabs fall off and you will see the real blush colour of your lips. Make sure you never pull the scabs off yourself! Let them fall off gently through the natural process. Make sure you apply Bepanthen ointment to the lips well 3 times a day and cleanse the lips twice a day with a fragrance-free soap and water.

All the ‘disadvantages’ above will have disappeared completely within 6 to 7 days. And after that you will enjoy the result for 2 to 3 years; decide for yourself whether you think it is worth it.

Where can you best have Lip Blushing done in the Netherlands?

Whatever type of pigmentation you choose, it is extremely important that you get a feeling of trust with the salon. We always advise you to:

Read reviews on Google or the website

Read up on the treatment at the salon in question

Look at photos on their social media

Check the salon's GGD inspection

Ask the salon what the disadvantages are, and what the process is if something does not go well

There are countless salons offering more and more pigmentation. This is because it is really becoming better and better known in the Netherlands. However, this does not mean that all salons are automatically very good or can deliver the best result you want. So pay close attention to the points mentioned above.

Checking for a GGD inspection is especially important. A salon's GGD inspection must be renewed every 3 years. The GGD assesses whether the salon works hygienically and safely, and whether the stylist really does pigment in the correct way. If a salon does not have this inspection, never have a treatment there!

It is also a good idea to look at the salon's social media. The honest reactions are often posted under the photos there, and you can easily scroll through photos. Does the work that is delivered match your wishes? Then this may be the right salon for you.

Always read up! It may be a bit of work to visit different websites and read up. But it is what can make or break it for you as a client. A website with shady or incorrect and brief information is not the place to be. A website should already radiate trust and be able to inform you sufficiently about the treatments they carry out.

What is also often useful is watching videos. By watching videos of the salon or videos of the treatment at the salon in question, you also quickly get an impression of the whole.
