How do you recognise a good permanent make-up salon?

Permanent make-up is being offered more and more often. But how can you recognise a good salon? We give you a number of tips to get you started.

1. Check whether the salon is GGD approved

It is extremely important to see whether a salon has undergone an inspection. After all, it is increasingly in the news that some "companies" offer PMU, fillers and Botox without having passed a proper inspection. To check a salon for permanent make-up you go to the GGD.

You can enter the name of the salon there. You will then see at which location the GGD has given approval, and until when this approval is valid.

2. Check the salon's social media

Nowadays you can find all sorts of things on social media. You can see how often a salon posts, what you think of the work and how much information a salon gives you on this platform. If a platform looks vague, has few followers, barely any information and has posted few photos of work, it quickly comes across the wrong way.

You also often see reactions from clients and the salon itself. Look at these as well, so you can see what kind of interaction a salon has with the client.

3. Check the reviews

Reviews are extremely important. Especially for businesses that really want to grow. You can read all sorts of things from reviews. There are always some bad reviews from clients who are dissatisfied but do not come from a reasonable place, and sometimes even from competitors. So filter the reviews of a business for yourself. You can, for example, read Google reviews, website reviews, Facebook reviews and Trustpilot reviews. Across all the reviews you can form a picture of the business in question.

Did you know that IZZI Beauty has more than 350 5-star reviews in total on Google Reviews and Trustpilot?

4. Go to the website

A good business will always have a supporting website. On this platform the salon can inform the client who is still in doubt. If there is no website, or a website looks very shady, ask yourself whether you want to go to the right salon.

5. Ask a number of questions

We have already heard it so often: they had no interest in me. A number of our clients told us how they ended up with us. They first approached a number of businesses, and found that they got the most information and answers to their questions from us. That is because we are genuinely interested in our client and in what our clients want to know.

Our clients often heard that they just had to book an intake appointment to get all the information. We do not think this is right. During an intake you go into the personal wishes of the client and what is possible for that particular client. If someone has questions or simply wants a bit more information, then we believe that as a salon you should be able to give this information. So if a salon does not do this, and this gives you a vague feeling, then simply do not go. First look a bit further for a salon that does show genuine interest in you as a client.

6. Look at healed work from the salon

On social media and websites there are often only photos of work that has just been placed. This is therefore immediately after the treatment. And with permanent make-up you do have to understand that after the first treatment around 40-60% disappears. The result you have just after it has been placed, and a week later, is therefore completely different. So also look at photos where clients have healed work. And whether the salon posts this at all.

7. Compare prices

Permanent make-up prices really vary widely. You can go for powder brows for around €200,- up to as much as €750,-. This is purely in the Netherlands, because the best professionals in America easily charge around $1500,-. And yes, you normally get a huge amount of enjoyment from it, because of course it lasts so long. But as you may have heard: buy cheap, buy twice. So do not assume that with too low a price such as €200,- you will get the perfect eyebrows. But that certainly also does not mean you have to pay the full €750,-. Sit somewhere in the middle and do what you want.

8. Hear-say

Do you have friends who have already undergone a treatment at a salon? And do they have the perfect PMU? Then think about whether you also find this true perfection and would also like to visit this salon for more information. Word of mouth has to date been the best advertising there is for all salons. A friend can tell you what her feeling was during the treatment and how she was treated. Perhaps this can also help you make a choice.

9. Go with your feeling

If you look at all the points and weigh them against each other, then the only thing left is: your feeling. If your feeling is not right, then do not go! If you doubt too much, then do not go! And if you have a good feeling about a salon, then take your time. Perhaps first just have an intake consultation so you can also make a connection with the person who will ultimately place your permanent make-up. Sleep on it.
