Lip Blush: the new alternative to lip fillers?

Fashion and cosmetic trends always change, but it seems that full lips are always trendy. Even before the invention of the first commercial lipstick at the end of the 19th century, women used various substances to emphasise their lips.

Modern times glorify full lips, which are no longer so hard to get with the help of cosmetic treatments. One of these is lip blush, a brand-new treatment that is here to replace the notorious lip fillers.

What is lip blush?

Lip blush is an evolved semi-permanent treatment in which pigments are placed in the edges and across your lips, making them look fuller. It is often achieved by using a combination of techniques: pigmenting in pixels (applying small dots of pigment).

Lip blush is similar to lip tattooing, but a more advanced and modern option for semi-permanent make-up for lips. That is because Lip Blush is placed in a very shallow way. It uses new techniques, more refined organic pigments (often vegan) and improved tools that are gentler on the skin. The result is much more natural-looking lips, without hard lines.

What does a lip blush treatment look like?

The treatment lasts on average between one and two hours. First you choose the pigment and the shape of your lips with the help and tips of the specialist. She draws the desired shape, so you can indicate adjustments. Then an anaesthetic gel is applied before the treatment to make the procedure less painful.

The pigment is applied with the advanced tattoo-like machine. After the healing period has ended, a touch-up treatment is required to correct any irregularities or add more pigment. You can also change the colour if you decide that the colour you chose at the first treatment is not the right one for you.

Is a lip blush treatment painful?

No, it is not. The tool used in the treatment is an advanced, digital pen-like device. It does not go as deep into the skin layers as the old-fashioned tattoo tool. It is therefore very superficial. In addition, the anaesthetic solution is applied before the treatment to prevent possible discomfort. In our salon we find that clients respond well to this. Thanks to the anaesthetic, the treatment often honestly feels ‘tickly’ and far from painful.

The lip blushing treatment is much more refined nowadays than the treatments that were used in the past.

Aftercare of lip blush after the treatment

Fortunately, lip blush does not need all that much time to heal. During that period, however, it is important to carefully follow your specialist's instructions.

Do not wear make-up, especially not around and on your lips. Avoid sweating and exposure to the sun. Wash and dry the area gently, without using aggressive cosmetic products. Apply the restorative cream that the PMU specialist has recommended to prevent complications.

Under no circumstances touch the scabs and absolutely do not remove them either. Let them fall off naturally to prevent complications. The more you moisturise with the cream, the less trouble you may have with scabs. Even so, every body works differently, so it is not always certain that you will not get them at all.

Why is lip blush tattoo better than lip fillers?

Blushing the lips is a less invasive procedure than fillers, and the result is much more natural! It remains visible longer, the healing process is shorter and it is much easier to correct if something goes wrong. Lip fillers also require a lot of maintenance and need to be topped up regularly. However, if you want a more dramatic look, lip fillers give better results. Especially if you have quite thin lips naturally.

But that does not mean that Lip Blush is not an option if you have thin lips. Because of the even colour applied to the lips, the lips quickly look fuller. In addition, a little more volume can always be added, think of overlining by 1 to 2 mm. The overlining still gives a very natural result, provided it is done the right way.

Lip Blush is also very nice when your lip line or Cupid's bow is not visible, or has less defined lines. You can choose to accentuate the lip line with a lovely soft fade towards the inside of the lip. Or you can choose to accentuate the lip edge without a shape that looks like just a lip liner. This is often what people think, since in the past the well-known lip liner was all too eagerly applied. Of course, this is no longer necessary.

All in all, here are all the advantages of Lip Blush compared with Lip Fillers at a glance:

Lip blush is a fairly painless treatment; lip fillers can be very painful

You enjoy Lip blush for 4-5 years, while fillers often have to be injected again after 6-8 months

With Lip Blush there are hardly any complications that can arise; with lip fillers you can often get lumps or uneven fading of the filler in the lip

You can also create more volume with Lip Blush

With Lip blush you get more warmth in terms of colour on the lips, and lip fillers additionally cause more pigment to disappear in the lip!

Lip Blush can help you hide pigment spots, add more warmth or actually brighten the colour of the lips
