I am opening up about the Microblading treatment, because I feel that many people are not fully informed about the treatment and its disadvantages. Countless customers come to me asking if I can still restore their microblading with powder brows. Why? Read more!
Scar tissue and trauma in the skin after microblading treatment. One of the topics we would like to explain better. The above photos are of course not done by us. We have been able to make these ladies happy with beautiful powder brows.
What is microblading?
Microblading is a technique for applying permanent eyebrows via a small thin blade. Pigment is applied in the skin with small cuts, so that it looks like hair for example. Microblading is a technique that is placed in the third layer of skin and is often quite a painful treatment. It is done by hand and not by machine.
The pigment is often applied to the skin when the cuts are well open and the skin is fairly fair. That too can be painful. Often a so-called pigment mask is also applied where the pigment is absorbed for another 10 minutes into the newly destroyed skin at the end of the treatment.
How long will microblading stay on?
Often times, salons advertise that Microblading can last up to 3 years. However, it strongly depends on the skin type you have; greasy, oily, dry, or normal. Microblading does not stay in place for all skin types. I often see in my salon that Microblading has actually only lasted 6 months to a maximum of 1 year at clients. So you pay a lot for a treatment that you enjoy for a short time. So keep that in mind when you choose Microblading.
Besides the fact that the result is short, you have to undergo the annoying painful treatment again after 6-8 weeks after the first treatment so that the pigment remains ‘longer’.
Microblading disadvantages
But that’s not the only drawback. Because Microblading is often placed in the third skin layer, scar tissue develops in the skin. Scar tissue from Microblading can arise because the skin has suffered a traumatic and painful wound and wants to automatically heal itself. This does not work in a natural way after the Microblading, and this causes scar tissue in the skin; a dense, fairly thick skin which may have a lumpy structure.
Scar tissue from microblading often looks like this:
The above result is of course not done by us. But we did make this lady very happy with the beautiful Powder Brows that she now has on her scar.
You often see that the skin has a red or greyish glow and the skin is thickened. The skin is also pulled tighter by the trauma, making all new types of treatments difficult on the skin after a similar trauma. Your skin is therefore enormously damaged by Microblading, and then it is even more difficult to undergo another treatment to restore it! How annoying is that ?!
We often encounter these complaints when people have had previous Microblading, even after 5 years the scar tissue remains very visible!
In addition to the fact that you have a high chance of scar tissue due to Microblading, you also have a high chance that the result will be short-lived at all.
We understand that if you have not read properly, you may did a Microblading treatment. And you just might regret it. But we personally think it’s a shame that too little is read properly if you would like something. The problem is that the ‘hairstrokes’ that you make by Microblading can easily be done by machine. The Powder Brows are also made mechanically, and with the same machine you can also have the hair technique installed.
Because you opt for a machine method, the PMU stylist will not pigment in the third skin layer, but in the first skin layer; as it should! That’s because the needle of the machine is set to a certain length. The needle cannot go deeper than that. So completely opposite to Microblading.
Have a look for yourself at the difference between Microblading (top) and hairstrokes machine (bottom). What do you like more?
Why is microblading offered more than Powder Brows?
We have a very simple answer to this: to be able to do Microblading does not require a large investment! The blade barely costs anything, and so does the course. That is why Microblading is offered everywhere and nowhere. Sometimes even for a fairly high price! Just remember that some salons just charge € 550.00 or more!
We still want to emphasize that we did not write this to disrespect everyone who is doing Microblading, but because what works for one person may not work for another. And that choice is entirely yours.
We just want to make it clear how a treatment works, what the consequences are, and that there is simply a more difficult way to go back. Choose wisely!
